Home Study

I'd really like to study further - from home. But I don't know what. Mainly something to keep myself occupied in something beneficial and to expand my general knowledge. I don't mind if the subject is Islamic or something else.

Ideally I would like something that is spread over the year or even termly, not longer.
Any Advice, Ideas, links etc would be greatly appreciated.

Ideally I would love to teach her at home. I guess it depends on how many more children I have. A friend of mine at 29 has 6 children! Alhamdulillah but she says she would never be able to home school them or afford islamic schooling.

Great Idea tho! Yes I would love more info!

keep em comin!

a while back, i considered doing a course with the Open University, but the course i wanted to do (Linguistics) wasn't available as a distance learning course, just the Literature modules. i know the OU is the most widely recognised distance University course, but they don't seem to offer that many courses considering, but there may be something of interest? take a look here

i also have a freind who is doing an interior design course through distance learning. she seems to be able to pick it up whenever she wants to (or rather whenever her daughter lets her!) so it seems quite flexible. if you like, i can ask her for more information, or of the place she is studying with offer any other courses?

Yes, if it's deen, LOC (as already posted) may be the way. You can also try ICS for short courses:

I am currently doing a psychology course with open university. The subject itslef isnt too difficult alhamdulillah but its quite hard finding the time as I work full time but one of my suggestions would be looking in to islamic finance and economics to understand how this system works and how we can start businesses in a halal manner. As 98% of muslim owned businesses will have used interest based loans to finance themselves.

hmm I did psych as an A level I did enjoy it alhamdulillah. As for finance I really enjoyed the Real Deal course at alkauthar and even enjoyed looking through the zakat file. But I still want something more general that I could use to benefit my children and other sisters around me. What could I do with the finance course?

that is a serious question btw, Finance does appeal to me but what could I do with it?

Well the reason I suggested islamic finance and economics is because there is a question mark over the so called halal mortgage. I am not familiar with the different types but i know of the popular two which are the Ijara plan and Murabaha plan.
The Ijara plan is based on leasing and the Murabaha.

The Ijara plan is the one whcih has a question mark over it. Im not familiar with shariah rulings on businesses but I came across a fatwa that stated that there can not be two contracts over one issue. For the Ijara plan you will not only pay back the loan you borrowed but will also pay the rent until you have completely brought the property or commodity. The rent is always reassessed every year from april to april and the rent will decreased according how much of the commdity you own.

The Murabaha plan is based on profit making. The bank buys the property and its in the clients name rather than the banks and the owner of the comddity will pay a montly sum, which the bank sells at a profit to the client. This option is better however it has down fall as it will only lend twice as much as your income and can not pay of the outstanding amount until the end of the payment terms.

i hope inshallah it makes sense as I do tend to waffle.
