Grateful for Regulations and Standards

They say that shoddy construction contributed to the level of destruction in Haiti following Tuesday's earthquake. Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon.

Has anyone noticed the building works in Egypt? It's one thing I couldn't help but notice each day as I walked past buildings being built - especially in Nasr City. A few slaps of cement here and there, add the bricks and cover all the gaps with the plaster - voila, you've got yourselves a block of flats for foreign students or richer Egyptians, oh and the bawab in the basement of course. I used to wonder everyday what would happen in case of a natural disaster.

That, along with the mad drivers - for the first time in my life I was extremely grateful for some of the Laws and regulations we have in the UK! That's not to say these things will protect us when death approaches us, but grateful nonetheless.
